The Review: Gold of Morocco Pure Argan Oil

Imoroccanoil1moroccanoil2

Although long gone, my ombre sure did a number on the quality of my hair. My ends have gone dry and they tend to look a little frazzled after a humid day. A popular method of smoothing frizz and making hair look healthy and glossy is the use of special serums or oils. The most popular being Moroccan Oil.  This blue and orange bottle is sold to millions all over the world and many bloggers have sung its praises.

Even though Moroccan Oil is the more popular option, I have never wanted to try it. It is anything but pure oil. There are over three different kinds of oil extracts and a long list of sillicones to make sure it glides through your hair to give it that sleek feeling.

I purchased this Gold of Morocco argan oil from a hairdresser wholesale. The oil has many great purposes. I use it to tame frizz, damn you heatwave. Or to protect my hair from heat of styling tools. I have noticed a significant change in the texture and behavior of my locks. They're much softer and easier to manage. Plus there's the added bonus of the delicious scent. My ends look healthy and glossy without ever being greasy.

Overall I enjoy using this product for it is making my hair look healthy again, something I have been looking for for a while. If you are looking for a nurturing oil to improve the quality of your hair, this is it.

And did I mention that it's cheaper than Moroccan Oil?

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor

I have been pretty obsessed with my hair lately. It has to look, feel and be super healthy. Mainly because I am trying to grow it out and I want to add an ombre effect to my usually dark mane. But.. putting bleach on your hair is a pretty harsh thing to do. So before dumping the buckets of bleach on my head, it needs to be super healthy and strong so that the damage the bleach does doesn't completely ruin it and makes it fall out. Oh, the horror that would be.

Helping me in maintaining a healthy mane are the Aussie 3 minute miracles. I love these bottles and I take them into my shower every time I wash my hair. In this review I'm focusing on the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor. Aussie is a brand that was created in 1979 by the American Tom Redmond. Mr. Redmond payed a visit to Australia and was inspired by the different kinds of fruit and herbs and the aromas that they create. After being so fascinated by all the wonderful ingredients that Australia provides he thought that they would be fantastic to use in your hair. And Aussie was born. The 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor being the first product to be released under the now super popular brand.

When I first used the 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor I was a little surprised by its scent. It smelled vaguely familiar, but I couldn't name it. After standing dazzled under the shower spray for a minute or so it dawned on me. BUBBLEGUM! It smells exactly like the pink roll up bubblegum you used to get as a kid. Lord, am I craving that gum now after smelling the product.

The packaging of the 3MMs is super handy! The bottle has an opening in the bottom, so that you always store it upside down and there is no squeezing and shaking the bottle trying to get the product out. Yet there is a little seal preventing the product from dripping out when you have it stored away.

The product itself is a little more liquid than you would expect from a deep conditioner. You spread it out over your hair. I like concentrating on my ends, seeing those need the most reconstructing and putting too much conditioner near your roots can easily make them greasy. You leave the product in for 1-3 minutes, depending on how much love your hair needs and then rinse it out with luke warm water. (Tip: never use hot water on your hair, it can dry out your locks)

The Reconstructor gives your hair a boost and leaves it feeling smooth, smelling like bubblegum and looking super shiny and healthy. However, make sure you don't use too much product in your hair as it can weigh it down quite a bit. A coin sized amount should be enough, a little more if your hair is way past your shoulder
If you're looking for an affordable deep conditioner that leaves your hair smooth and shiny, the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor is the product for you. The ingeniously designed bottle holds 250 ml, quite a generous amount. The Aussie 3MMs are sold in drugstores all over the world. The Dutch recommended retail price is €8,99 for 250 ml.

The battle against SLS/SLES: Step 1 Hair Care

DRORGANICHEADER
SLS? What is that? Might come to mind after reading the title and the header of this post. SLS stands for Sodiom Lauryl Sulfate. SLES is Sodium Laureth Sulfate, SLES is a milder version of SLS. These sulfates are sulfates that are commonly used in shampoos, soap, cleansers, body washes, etc.. Basically, it's soap. It's a chemical that makes your product foam up. They are part of the group labeled as 'sulfuctants', which are surface cleaners. You can also use SLS and SLES to clean your kitchen... or your car. Now you don't want that on your face or hair, do you?

These chemicals are also very irritating. they can cause hair follicle damage, skin damage, permanent eye damage in children and even liver toxicity.

SLS and SLES are not neccessary in your hair care, hygiene and skin care routine. There are plenty of amazing products that are free of these harsh chemicals and still do a great job at getting you really clean. I was very relieved that at least my skin care was free of SLS and SLES. (And it should be.. for 35 bucks per bottle of cleanses!!) But going through my bathroom cabinet I was shocked to see that EVERY SINGLE THING had SLES in it, a few had SLS.

I threw out all the half finished bottles of shampoo and went to a drugstore that I know stocks a lot of organic natural things. The sales lady assisted me in finding a proper shampoo for my hair type and my wants.

Dr. Organic is a British brand that specialises in organic products for skin, hair, face, teeth, you name it. Everything you'll need for your personal care and hygiene, they have it.

I purchased a new shampoo and conditioner from this brand, because my hair care is the very first step towards banning all SLS from my life. I just don't feel comfortable using it anymore.

The shampoo and conditioner I bought is from the Virgin Olive Oil range, which has been specially designed for hydrating purposes. My hair needs hydration especially after I've used hot styling tools on my precious locks.

I'm excited to use these products. I hope they improve my hair and the condition of my scalp. My scalp is often irritated and itchy, and I think that it might just be the cause of the SLS in the products I've been using.

The next step is going to be personal hygiene, a new body wash, I desperately need it. What you put on your body will eventually make its way into your body. So it matters what products you use. A deeper review of the shampoo and conditioner will be posted after I've been using it for a while.
