Quite some time ago the Rimmel Apocalips came out. Described as a high pigment lip lacquer with the color payoff of lipstick but the finish of a gloss, they didn't really seem up my alley. But I till purchased a shade and reviewed it for the blog. But I have to admit that it has falled to the back of my drawer and I hardly reach for it anymore.

But while browsing through the drugstore aisles a few weeks ago I saw some new colors added to the range and was intrigued by them. While I loved the formula before, the color selection was a little disappointing and I ended up barely using the original shade I purchased, Stellar. There have been two new shades added to the range that are dark and vampy, perfect for the autumn/winter time.

Rimmel Apocalips in Stellar

I'm a little bit late to the party, as per usual. In all fairness, these were marketed as the color of a lipstick but the finish of a lipgloss. And my least favorite makeup product is probably lipgloss. (That however does not stop me having a drawer full of the bastards).

But when I was out spending money mindlessly because I was bored browsing the shops I saw a shiny display of these lip lacquers and was intrigued. I didn't think the range of colors offered in the Dutch shops is all that spectacular. The nudes were a bit too brown for me and the pinks looked like they would wash me out. And purchasing another red one could not be justified, even a little bit.

Stellar popped out to me. The pinkish coral color seemed interesting and bright and a real pop within the somewhat boring range of colors. They were on special offer so I could not resist and popped it into my basket.

Of course, upon arrival at Maison Kelly it disappeared into my seemingly endless 'yet to review' bowl and didn't get picked up until yesterday morning. Having a play around with my new camera I wanted to put the vibrancy up to the test.

First of all I like the packaging of these lip lacquers. Sleek and black and vaguely resembeling some sort of comet/surface of a meteorite. As you can see from the second picture, the wand looks just like a lipgloss wand would look like. But there's catch! It has a little cavity inside where a lot of product is heaped. Upon application this gradually comes out and wil make sure that you don't have to 'double-dip'.

The color itself is gorgeous. A lovely coral color that looks wonderfully bright on the lips. The formula of these lacquers spreads really nicely, making application a joy. Surprisingly they aren't sticky at all. They provide a lovely shine to your lips, and an amazing bright tint.

They last a decent amount of time. I wouldn't call them longwearing. But you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee without having the reapply. A meal however will destroy them, so if you want to wear it out for a night on the town, you might want to pop it in your purse so you can freshen up.

Final verdict, I like this color. But I'm not still not sold on the lipgloss-like idea. I prefer a matte look. However, that doesn't take away that it is a good product. The color range, to me, is a little boring, but if you like muted pinks or browny nudes, then it should be right up your alley.

And for the retail price, they're definitely worth giving a go!

FOTD: Glow

IMG_4717

The Rimmel Wake Me Up is becoming better for me day after day, and now that I've been wearing it paired with strategical parts of my face highlighted with the Body Shop's Radiant Highlighter... it has gotten even better. Let's just say that in the morning... I look less than alive. And the combination of these two magical products give me lovely, glowing skin.

The viking even commented saying I looked really healthy, and he never comments on my makeup.

First, I apply a primer, but that's only when I think of it. I often realise whilst applying my foundation that I have skipped primer. I apply the Wake Me Up foundation with my elf powder brush, really buffing it into the skin. Then I take a small dab of the highlighter and apply it to my cheekbones, cupid's bow and the bridge of my nose.

The product comes in a 30 ml glass bottle, it feels quite luxurious and sturdy. The color of the cap is gorgeous and an instand brightener in your makeup collection. In my Dutch drugstore there were only four shades available, which I thought was a little too little to cater to everyone's needs.

The bottle has a pump dispenser, which works very hygienically and makes sure you dispense enough product. One pump was more than enough to cover my entire face.

The formula itself comes out quite thick, I guess I was expecting something a little thinner. It isn't bothersome, I just noticed it. I got the shade 100 Ivory, and it matches my skintone well enough. Not a perfect match, but I certainly don't mind and I don't think anyone (who isn't a makeup junkie) will notice.
The foundation spreads evenly and beautifully out over my face. It is indeed full coverage and perfectly covers the redness I have in my cheeks and the few spots that are a result of a week of not taking the pill.

It lasts a long time. I've been leaning on my forehead for quite a while and it hasn't smudged or melted off. And I'm sure that with a little powder it will certainly stay on my face all day.

I love the little illuminating particles in it. They leave my skin looking fresh and glowy, like you hardly have any product on. Great for during the spring and summer and you want to look fresh faced and dewy. A little highlighter in strategic places will really make you look flawless.

I really recommend this foundation. It's great! And for €12,99 it definitely won't break the bank.

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate lipstick review

tubelipstickbykate

A review of the Rimmel London's Lasting Finish lipstick by Kate. Kate Moss, supermodel extraordinaire, came out with her own range of lipstick with the brands after being the face for lord knows how many years. The by Kate line has a bunch of different colors. From Kate's signature red lips to nude, to fuchsia and even a strange dark purple that definitely needs some courage to pull off!

I got number 01, which is supposedly Kate's signature color and the one she wears in the campaign. It's a nice bright red color. Perfect for most skintones, but be careful with teeth. For they might enhance the yellowness of your not so pearly whites.

The packaging of these lipsticks is gorgeous. It's very simple and classic. Just plain black matte tubes with red 'Kate' lettering on it, followed by an adorable little heart. It does feel quite light, so it might fall victim to heavy items in your bag.

lipstickbykate

The lipstick, as all the other lipsticks in the range, have a creamy finish. So they look shiny and creamy on the lips but don't have any shimmer of glitter particles in them. I love the look it gives to your lips.

It glides onto lips beautifully, straight from the tube or applied with a lip brush. I recommend using a lip brush with the brighter colors, for it is quite easy to stray outside the boundaries of your lips.

swatchbykate

The red of this color is gorgeous. This is definitely not the first red in my collection, but it is a really nice and a great new addition.

lipswatchbykate

Excuse my slightly dodgy looking foundation in the swatch. I tried the Catrice Photo Finish Liquid Foundation and it oxidized and gathered in all the wrong places. But at least you can see the prettiness of the lipstick, right! (Also, see that little stripe on my chin? That's a scar from when I was nine years old.)

I am really happy with this lipstick, and I might just go back to Kruidvat tomorrow and pick up two more. Because I really like number 02 and 03. They normally retail for €9,49 but they are on offer at Kruidvat right now for five bucks a piece.
