Rimmel Apocalips in Stellar

I'm a little bit late to the party, as per usual. In all fairness, these were marketed as the color of a lipstick but the finish of a lipgloss. And my least favorite makeup product is probably lipgloss. (That however does not stop me having a drawer full of the bastards).

But when I was out spending money mindlessly because I was bored browsing the shops I saw a shiny display of these lip lacquers and was intrigued. I didn't think the range of colors offered in the Dutch shops is all that spectacular. The nudes were a bit too brown for me and the pinks looked like they would wash me out. And purchasing another red one could not be justified, even a little bit.

Stellar popped out to me. The pinkish coral color seemed interesting and bright and a real pop within the somewhat boring range of colors. They were on special offer so I could not resist and popped it into my basket.

Of course, upon arrival at Maison Kelly it disappeared into my seemingly endless 'yet to review' bowl and didn't get picked up until yesterday morning. Having a play around with my new camera I wanted to put the vibrancy up to the test.

First of all I like the packaging of these lip lacquers. Sleek and black and vaguely resembeling some sort of comet/surface of a meteorite. As you can see from the second picture, the wand looks just like a lipgloss wand would look like. But there's catch! It has a little cavity inside where a lot of product is heaped. Upon application this gradually comes out and wil make sure that you don't have to 'double-dip'.

The color itself is gorgeous. A lovely coral color that looks wonderfully bright on the lips. The formula of these lacquers spreads really nicely, making application a joy. Surprisingly they aren't sticky at all. They provide a lovely shine to your lips, and an amazing bright tint.

They last a decent amount of time. I wouldn't call them longwearing. But you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee without having the reapply. A meal however will destroy them, so if you want to wear it out for a night on the town, you might want to pop it in your purse so you can freshen up.

Final verdict, I like this color. But I'm not still not sold on the lipgloss-like idea. I prefer a matte look. However, that doesn't take away that it is a good product. The color range, to me, is a little boring, but if you like muted pinks or browny nudes, then it should be right up your alley.

And for the retail price, they're definitely worth giving a go!

  1. I went for Stellar too out of all the Rimmel Apocalips and must say I'm impressed. Not the most nourishing but the pop of colour is like no other! Not going to be purchasing more of these either but the colour is pretty!
